Welcome one and all!

As a writer, I have to keep some things to myself, but here are some free-to-read, free-to-use poems for home and school. And the park. And the beach. And up a tree. Quite frankly, wherever you want to read a poem, that’s the place for it.

I have other poems published on The Dirigible Balloon website, which you can check out at www.dirigibleballoon.org There are SO many great poems there, you should read as many as you can, not just mine!

Later in 2024 I would like to publish a chapbook of my poems. Will that happen? We’ll see!

Note:
If you want to use my work in a public forum, please remember to credit me as the writer. It’s just the right thing to do. Thanks.

Night Rain

This poem was the winner of the Drop By Drop Poetry for Children Competition run in 2023. You can also find it on The Dirigible Balloon.

It cloaks me like a blanket.
I thank it.
It tittle-tatters me to sleep.

On quiet nights I lie awake.
It’s late.
Thinking thoughts and counting sheep.

On rainy nights I’m soothed.
Smoothed.
Rough patches from the day removed.

The noise swirls round the room.
And soon…

Soon…

Soon…

Moment

This poem is available on The Dirigible Balloon.

You open the door
to a morning so crisp
you could snap it in half if you tried.

You feel the fresh chill
where it skips up your skin
as you move from the warmth to outside.

For only a second
—one glorious second—
you’re alone in the morningsharp air.

Then they call out your name
And you say “Just a second!”

But the second is no longer there.
